Pigeons, gulls and other pest birds are notorious for making messes on buildings, signs and awnings. The loading docks of manufacturing plants are also an area that could become inundated with the pest birds. Starlings are often found nesting in the rafters. This could be a dire situation if the plant manufactures any type of food items. Whatever bird problem the company may have will need to be taken care of with some sort of bird control solution. So where and how do you start the process?

Most companies have procedures in place for pests such as rats, mice or termites, but the pest birds are often forgotten about until the consequences of their behaviors are noticed, usually causing damage to the exterior or interior of the building. The birds droppings and nesting materials cause risks for the health of the building and its tenants. Bird droppings will corrode machinery and just about anything they land on. If a bird builds its nest near a ventilation system, it can be very dangerous. The pest bird problem costs businesses thousands of dollars each year for clean-up and repair.

First Tip Evaluate Your Surroundings

It is important to inspect the entire building for any evidence of birds. Do you see the droppings on the side of the building? Are there nesting materials in the eaves or rafters? Are they actually nesting or just perching and then flying away. It will need to be determined how much time and money needs to be spent on the situation and if it is a more structural problem or could there also be health concerns.

Second Tip: Know Your Resources

You will need to determine if the bird issues can be resolved by the buildings maintenance crew of if outside consultation will be needed. Some issues are an easy fix. If birds are located in the company signage, it is fairly simple to apply bird spikes so that they will not be able to land in the area any longer. If there are birds nesting and trapped indoors up in the rafters or attic, a bird control company may be needed to help you get rid of birds from this area. Large bird netting jobs are often money well spent by hiring the professionals to install it.

Third Tip: Take Action

Bird spikes, bird netting, bird slopes, and many other bird control methods are there for the choosing. If there are birds hanging around outside on the lamp posts or fences or rooftops, install bird spikes or another type of physical bird deterrent which will block them from landing in the area. There are quick, easy and economical fixes that can occur almost instantly.

Taking a proactive approach before there is a bird infestation problem will be a much more financially feasible option. A bird control strategy can be thought out and the professionals in a bird control company can be consulted. Make sure to choose a bird control company that has access to qualified installers in your area to help you out.
