Bird control is needed and used not just at home. Boats, churches, ballparks, warehouses and airports are just a small handful of places where lack of bird control products could be very detrimental to the business and safety of its customers. One of the key reasons to use bird deterrents is to keep birds away and to keep them from destroying property. Their nesting materials and droppings are not only destructive to property, but they can be a health hazard as well.

Bird droppings are very acidic. They can ruin metals, roofs, awnings and the signage on a building. This happens more when the droppings are allowed to accumulate. What also happens when the droppings accumulate is they are susceptible to harboring many diseases that can be transmitted to humans. This includes over 60 different diseases including E.coli, salmonellosis, histoplasmosis and cryptococcosis. Bed bugs and mites can also be found in the droppings and nests. There are the two basic reasons to install bird control products before there is a problem with many consequences. The pest birds you want to deter include the pigeons, sparrows, starlings, crows, geese and seagulls. All of them cause problems when they are allowed to gather on the property.

Bird Spikes

Implementing effective bird control is essential to having a healthy business. Bird spikes are one type of physical bird deterrent that will keep birds off the awnings, rooftops and out of the gutters and girders. Stainless steel bird spikes are recommended by architects, contractors and government agencies. They require very little maintenance, if any, and are specially designed for the areas that are difficult to reach. They feature a bend and crush design that enables the spikes to stay locked into place. The base of the spikes is U.V. protected and made of polycarbonate. There are choices as to what width to purchase depending on the area they will be applied to.

Another choice in bird spikes is plastic bird spikes. They come in a variety of colors to match the surface where they are being applied, and there are also different width sizes to choose from. These types of spikes are non-conductive, meaning they will not interfere with electrical or communication equipment. The plastic bird spikes can also be installed on any flat or curved surface, including inside the letters of the company sign. They have a unique design where there is a glue trough on the base making it very easy to glue down. They can also be nailed or screwed down to the surface.

Bird Slope

Another type of effective bird control product is the bird slope. The bird slope is ideal for ledges, beams, eaves and other 90-degree areas where the birds are susceptible to roost and nest. Bird slopes are especially ideal to deter the swallows from building their mud nests on the walls. Bird slopes are slippery PVC sections that create and angle and slippery slope that the birds have trouble landing on.

Both the bird spikes and bird slopes are easy to install, but they are also safe and humane for the bird.
