Effective Bird Control for The Agriculture Industry

Agriculture

Farmers and growers have always had a tug of war with pest birds. Annual worldwide losses have been in the millions of dollars as birds damage and destroy crops, vines and seeds. Food storage areas, such as barns and granaries also attract birds.

Birds peck at fruits and vegetables grown in concentrated areas because they provide a quick and easy meal. Losses in these areas can be extensive. Even in backyard gardens, fruit trees, berry bushes, vines and vegetables are constantly under siege by pest birds.

Recent Bird Flu Epidemic Threatens Poultry Farmers

The USDA recently documented one of the worst national outbreaks of bird flu since December last year, an epidemic that more than doubles the number of birds affected so far across the U.S. The USDA went on to warn poultry farmers that this bird flu virus can kill nearly an entire flock in just 48 hours, adding that over 5.3 million chickens in an Iowa farm recently fell victim to the avian influenza or bird flu. With over 58 million egg-laying hens, Iowa is the nation's largest egg-producing state. Iowa is one of 12 U.S. states with bird flu infections since the beginning of 2015. The need for prompt and effective bird controls in these areas can’t be overstated.

Bird Control to Match Your Agriculture Needs

Bird controls most often recommended for the agriculture industry include:

This plastic mesh net is ideal for temporarily protecting fruit trees, blueberry bushes, gardens and vineyards from pest birds. The netting can be used as garden mesh to cover crops, or as fruit tree netting to keep birds out of trees. Available in ¾”, ½”, and ¼” mesh, the netting not only seals out pest birds but creates a protective micro-climate for plants in hot or cold areas. Fabricated of durable, long lasting UV-protected polypropylene, the netting is strong, light and easy to handle.

This hand-held device uses advanced, patented optical laser-beam technology to harmlessly repel pest birds over great distances—up to 2,000 meters. Much like an approaching car, birds perceive the green laser beam as a rapidly approaching physical threat, so they flee the area. Ideal for repelling a variety of birds, the Agrilaser® comes with two rechargeable batteries and power charger.

This device emits pre-recorded distress and predator calls that intimidate as many as 22 species of birds. Plays for two minutes at ten minute intervals. Ideal for deterring pest birds from large open spaces, the device is water resistant, programmable, and comes with a built-in speaker that will cover up to an acre. Additional speakers can be added to cover up to 5 acres.

Similar to the Bird Chase Super Sonic, but this unit is solar powered and works even on cloudy days. No AC power access is needed, so it can easily be placed in far-out areas where pest birds gather most often. The unit operates between 65-105 decibels.
