Solving Pest Bird Problems in Montana

Montana Bird Control

The Big Sky Country State has its problems with pest birds. As many as 13 species of woodpeckers inhabit Montana, with the downy, hairy and the northern flicker being the most widespread. These birds have been damaging the siding and beams of many commercial structures and buildings in the state.

Bird flu is another problem. Montana’s State Veterinarian notes that the devastating flu could significantly impact poultry in Montana. The state’s department of livestock says there are about 40 large poultry farms in the state. Overall, Montana’s domestic poultry, chickens and turkeys are very susceptible. Experts note that the best way to protect a flock is to practice good bio-security, which means limiting exposure to wild birds.

Pigeons are causing all sorts of problems in Miles City. The city council recently voted to give police permission to shoot some pigeons immediately and to set up bird feeders with a chemical that would not allow the pigeons to reproduce. Businesses in the area have been hardest hit. The city’s mayor, concerned over the diseases carried by pigeon droppings, had some of the birds killed around his restaurant. Some residents became upset over the killing of the birds.

Here’s what the bird control experts at Bird B Gone recommend for solving Montana’s bird control problems:

For Woodpeckers

BeakGuard Woodpecker Deterrent is an elastomeric acrylic finish that’s easily applied to wood to discourage woodpeckers from attacking siding and other vulnerable areas. The compound won't hurt woodpeckers or other birds

For Wild Birds Carrying Bird Flu

The Bird-Hazing System releases a light haze of Methyl Anthranilate, a non-toxic, EPA approved food-grade solution that irritates a bird’s mucous membranes.

For Pigeons

Stainless Steel Bird Spikes won’t allow birds to land. Available in 1-, 3-, 5- and 8-inch splay widths, the spiked strips provide increasingly wider areas of protection.
