Solving Pest Bird Problems in Nebraska

Nebraska Bird Control

Like most states in the Midwest, the Cornhusker State has its share of pest birds, including pigeons and starlings. Pigeons invaded the top of the west column on Embassy Suites in downtown Lincoln, leaving disease carrying droppings on the roof and sidewalk below. At nightfall, they flocked beneath the Rosa Parks Way Bridge, directly above the parking lot of the Cornhusker Place treatment center. A concerned health department staffer stood beneath the bridge, trying to solve the growing pigeon problem.

People believe there are more pigeons in the downtown area. The birds have changed their habits, flocking to the south edge of the Haymarket to the top of the Grand Manse to the roof of Embassy Suites. StarTran, east of Cornhusker Place, was having the same problem. Droppings were covering the city bus system's parking lot, storage area and walkway.

Starlings are another huge pest for Nebraska growers. The birds consume cultivated fruits, such as grapes, peaches, blueberries, strawberries, figs, apples and cherries. Starlings recently caused extensive damage to ripening (milk stage) corn. In some areas, they pull sprouting grains, particularly winter wheat, and eat the planted seed.

Here’s what the bird control experts at Bird B Gone recommend for solving Nebraska’s bird control problems:

For Pigeons

Stainless Steel Bird Spikes won’t allow birds to land. Available in 1-, 3-, 5- and 8-inch splay widths, the spiked strips provide increasingly wider areas of protection. Bird Net 2000 Heavy Duty Bird Netting is the proven physical barrier deterrent that seals out pest birds from a wide range of structures, areas and venues.

For Starlings

Ideal for deterring as many as 22 different species of birds, the Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic device broadcasts distress and predator calls that intimidate birds.
