Backyard Pool Areas Need Bird Control
Water is like a magnet for birds. There are many bird enthusiasts who set up bird baths and feed the birds in their backyards. They do not care if their backyard is full of birds. This is very enticing for the pest birds and they will flock to this new water source and food source. If birds dream, this would be the ultimate dream. Each season the birds will return, also, knowing they have an easy source of food and water readily available. There are even solar bird baths on the market that circulate the water for the birds, keeping it clean and stopping the mosquitoes from laying eggs in the water.
When you do not intend to have the birds or encourage them to come, if you have a pool in the backyard, this may be the only encouragement they need. They view the pool as a giant bird bath. If there are trees surrounding your property they may be roosting in the trees. Birds like to roost and nest close to their feeding ground.
A birds natural inclination is to discard their nest waste into bodies of water. They try and keep their nests from being detected by their predators, and this is why they dispose of their waste in water. It is pretty obvious once you know why backyard pools are a perfect dumping ground for this behavior. This behavior also adds extra cost to keep the pool maintained. Bird waste is very unsanitary. Within the droppings and nesting materials harbor many diseases that can be transmitted to humans. There are also fungus, molds, insects and parasites.
Implementation of bird control will help keep birds away. There are many bird control devices that will do the trick. Visual bird deterrents are a great first line of defense. Flash tape, for instance, is a 1" by 50' tape that can be purchased and cut to size and hung around the yard. The tape is made of a shiny material which reflects the sunlight. The birds do not like the movement, sound, or sight of the tape flapping in the breeze.
Another fantastic visual bird control product is the scare balloon. The scare balloon also has a shiny surface. The difference with the balloon is that it has what the birds perceive to be predator markings on the surface of the balloon. They can be hung as well, but for the purpose of getting rid of birds from the pool, the balloons can be filled half way up with water and left to float in the pool. If you have guests over, they will just think it is a fun beach ball. The scare balloons are about the size of an average beach ball.
There are not only visual deterrents that scare birds away. Sound bird deterrents also scare them away. This type of bird control device broadcasts distress and predator calls. This is an ideal bird control device for large areas as with the one internal speaker it can cover as large as one acre. With additional speakers the sound bird deterrent can cover up to 5 acres of land.
Using these methods in combination with each other is the best defense at keeping birds away. Do not let them catch a routine, move around the bird control devices from time to time.
