Bird Control Devices that Work and Those that Don't

Posted on February 8, 2022 by Bird B Gone in Bird Control

If you've been plagued by pest birds pooping all over your signage, AC units, skylights and solar panels, it's time you looked into some bird control devices that work. Trouble is, some devices work, others are either ineffective or have serious drawbacks.

To help sort things out, the bird control pros at Bird B Gone have several suggestions, starting with bird control devices that are less than ideal.

What bird control methods are NOT Recommended?

    1. Ultrasonic Devices

The trouble with Ultrasonic devices is that birds can’t hear the sounds emitted by them, and there is no scientific evidence that these devices work. While birds do react to sounds faster than humans, they still have the same audio frequency hearing range that we do. So, the only thing these ultrasonic bird repeller devices do is annoy dogs and cats (they can hear higher frequencies). See below for recommended sound bird deterrents.

    2. Propane Gas Cannons

Although propane cannons have a time and place, for the average person these units will not be necessary. They create loud explosion thunderclap bangs, which can be extremely unsettling. Which is the main purpose to startle and scare birds from wide-open fields.

    3. Lethal Bird Control

These bird control devices include avicides (bird poisons), pellet guns, shotguns, and lethal traps. These methods suffer from some drawbacks: they are limited to where and when you can use them; they are only marginally effective against large numbers of pest birds; they are illegal to use against many bird species. If you are dealing with protected birds, we highly recommend avoiding any of these methods and contact a Bird Control Professional for consultation.

    Bird Control Devices that Work

So which bird control devices should you invest your time and money in? Bird B Gone recommends the following:

    1. Plastic Bird Spikes

Bird B Gone anti-perching, anti-roosting plastic bird spikes are ideal for keeping pest birds off rooftops, parapet walls, light fixtures, security cameras and signage. They are easily installed using screws, glue or tie downs and they come in 3-, 5- and 7-inch widths. You can even choose from a rainbow of colors including brick red, white, crystal clear, light grey, brown, black and tan.

    2. Wind-Powered Bird Spiders

Creating an intimidating bird barrier, Bird B Gone's Bird Spider 360 has long, spindly tentacles that keep bird pests from rooftop AC units, awnings, canopies, skylights, solar panels and other elevated areas. These bird control devices come in four arm lengths 2', 4', 6' and 8' to create increasingly larger areas of pest bird deterrence.

    3. Sounds Birds will Hear and Fear

Bird B Gone's Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic emits distress and predator calls that frighten birds. The sounds resemble natural birdcalls so they won't bother anyone but pest birds. A built-in speaker covers up to an acre of property. And a built-in solar panel powers the device during the day while rechargeable batteries power it at night.
