Flocking Birds and the Problems they Cause

Flocking Birds and the Problems they Cause

While they are often smaller, flocking birds can wreak havoc on buildings, structures and agriculture. It’s not uncommon to see thousands of starlings, grackles or crows overwhelm an area. And when they do, they leave huge amounts of droppings that deface and damage buildings and structures. These droppings are highly acidic and will eat through plastic, metal, wood and can even corrode stonework.

Flocking bird droppings and nesting materials can jam up and clog machinery, rain gutters and runoff systems, creating costly repairs for property owners. This bird debris is often the source of bacteria, fungal agents and ectoparasites, which can cause serious diseases, including histoplasmosis, encephalitis, salmonella, meningitis, and toxoplasmosis.

Equally problematic, flocking bird droppings can create dangerous slip- and-fall problems when they are fresh or made slippery by rain or sprinklers. Finally, getting rid of these droppings can add considerably to a company’s clean-up and maintenance budget. Finally, flocking birds can quickly lay waste to acres of crops, costing growers thousands in lost produce and seedlings.

The Solution: Effective, Human Bird Control

The bird control experts and Bird B Gone have a number of solutions to get rid of flocking birds. Here’s what they recommend:

Bird Hazing System

Proven effective in dispersing flocking birds, Bird B Gone bird-hazing units efficiently deploy a light fog or haze of bird repellent made with Methyl Anthranilate, a non-toxic, food-grade ingredient that irritates a bird’s mucous membranes. This hazing system is ideal for removing flocking birds from large enclosed to semi-enclosed areas, such as docks, overhangs, warehouses, aircraft hangars and plant nurseries. Each satellite unit features a 1-liter tank and uses far less liquid repellent than other hazing units. And each main control unit controls up to three satellite units for full perimeter coverage.

Thermal Fogging Solutions

Bird B Gone bird fogging systems are ideal for clearing out flocking birds that gather and loiter in parks, golf courses, memorial parks and other large open spaces. These systems can employ either stationary or hand-held fogging units to generate an aerosol of methyl anthranilate to produce a “wet fog” that won’t penetrate shrubs.

Agrilaser®

Employing advanced, patented optical laser-beam technology, Bird B Gone’s handheld Agrilaser® harmlessly repels flocking birds over great distances—up to 2,000 meters. Birds react to the green beam as they would an approaching car, so they flee the area. Yet, unlike some deterrent devices, birds will not get used to the laser beam’s implied threat. The Agrilaser® has been scientifically designed to remove even the most stubborn flocking birds from open spaces like ball parks, stadiums, monuments, marinas, dump sites, ponds, golf courses and other troublesome areas. The Agrilaser® is also highly effective in deterring pest birds in and around big box stores, warehouses, airplane hangers and other semi-enclosed areas.
