Get Bird Netting for Blueberries to Keep Birds Away

Everyone, it seems, is talking about blueberries. As one of the highest antioxidant fruits, they make a great, healthy snack. If you're growing blueberries in your backyard or field, you should know that pest birds love to eat them. Blueberries attract finches, robins, grosbeak, pheasants, blue jays, Stellar jays, humming birds and many other species of birds. It doesn't take long for these hungry, determined birds to completely denude a blueberry bush.

Banging pots to scare birds or squirting them with a water hose won't keep them away. Hanging old CDs on the vines won't work either. And resorting to bird poisons, traps or other lethal deterrents to keep birds away is not a viable solution, since many birds are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which prohibits harming them, their nests or their young. The only humane, effective bird deterrent is blueberry netting. And the one plant netting recommended by the bird control experts at Bird-B-Gone is Ultra Net.

Bird Netting Blueberries Blocks Pest Birds

Protecting your blueberry plants with Ultra Net creates an effective bird barrier that won't allow pest birds to access your blueberries. It blocks bird pests, yet allows sunshine, fresh air and spring rains to nurture your plants. Fabricated of rugged UV-protected polypropylene, Ultra Net is strong and virtually invisible. The blueberry bush netting is available in three different mesh sizes-inch, 2-inch and 3/4-inch to block out the full variety of pest birds. It comes in small sizes or bulk rolls of 14 x 100 feet. For large crop areas, the netting is available in 14 x 5,000 foot rolls.

Bird Netting Blueberries Creates a Micro-Climate

Ultra Net not only blocks out bird pests but can create a microclimate for your ripening blueberries. Ultra Nets dense 1/2-inch mesh can provide a cooler, more pro-growth climate during hot summer days. This tight mesh can even help protect your blueberries from the harmful effects of a light frost or strong winds.

Bird Netting Blueberries is Easy

Blueberry netting is light, durable and easy to handle. Its easily cut with ordinary scissors. If you only have a small blueberry bush or two in your garden, you can wrap each bush in netting to protect it from pest birds. If you're growing larger quantities of blueberries, Bird-B-Gone suggests you suspend the netting over entire groups of bushes, creating an elevated bird barrier. In this way, Ultra Net can be suspended from a series of poles implanted around the perimeter of your blueberry garden. Either way, be sure to leave at least a four-inch space between the netting and your blueberries. This will prevent pest birds from perching on the netting and using their beaks to pick at your ripening blueberries.
