Pest birds can invade your home in no time, especially migratory birds. One day it will be still and quite in your yard, and the next day you will see and hear the activities of the birds. They will begin making nests and they will roost in the worst possible places causing a terrible nuisance. It is very easy to put into place a bird control strategy that has the pest birds leaving the area and the new birds flying away to find another location. The pest bird control industry has made bird removal humane, effective and safe for the environment. There are hundreds of bird control methods to choose from, but don’t let that scare you away from figuring out what you need in order to protect your property, home and health from the invasion of the pest bird and the destruction they can create. It can be simple and easy and it does not have to cost a fortune.

You will want to first determine what species of bird is in the area. Common pest birds include house sparrows, pigeons, crows, starlings, swallows, to name a few. They fill find areas to roost and nest in the eaves of the home, on the roof and in the trees. Spring time gardens are very important to protect if you want to have a successful and fruitful garden.

Physical bird deterrents are methods that will block the pest birds from an area. Products include bird spikes and bird netting. Bird spikes would protect any flat surface such as ledges, rooflines, posts and even windowsills. They can also be applied to curved surfaces. Many companies use bird spikes in their company signage. There are heavy duty stainless steel bird spikes that are usually recommended by architects, contractors and government agencies. They come pre-assembled and in different widths to accommodate the area that needs to be treated. The same is true for plastic bird spikes. The plastic spikes come in a variety of colors including crystal clear so as not to interfere with the aesthetics of your home. There are also spikes specifically designed for use in the rain gutters of your home or building. The house sparrow and starling are notorious for building their nests in the gutters, which can cause clogging and the pile up of unsanitary bird droppings.

Bird netting could be used on a variety of areas including rooftops, fruit trees, berry blushes and vegetable gardens. They are heavy duty yet light weight; protected with U.V. polypropylene making the bird netting weather resistant and long lasting. Bird netting is quick and easy to use and one of the most effective, low profile physical barriers to prevent the birds from getting at the fruits of your labor. Netting can also be used to stop the swallows from building their mud nests under the eaves. There is also a specific deterrent for swallows. No Nasty Nest Swallow and Bad Deterrent are strips of which clear mono-filament lines drape down after being attached to the eaves. It is virtually invisible from the ground, but will definitely keep the pest swallows away.

Sound bird deterrents are another established method of keeping birds away from an area. They are especially effective in large areas. Sonic units are sound devises that are used to mimic the sounds of predators’ and distress calls. The sonic units have over 22 types of bird calls that can be programmed to play at ten minute intervals. When the pest bird hears the ‘alarming’ calls, their natural instincts kick in and they will want to fly away immediately.

There are many products on the market that are humane without harming the pest bird, domestic animals, people or property. The hazard of not having a safe pest bird control method in place is chancy. When bird droppings accumulate, there are many fungal, viral and bacterial diseases that can be contracted by coming into contact and breathing in the dust of the dried up bird feces. The droppings are also very acidic and will wear away at the structure they land on. Peace of mind will be your most prized return when bird deterrents are put in place and they fly on by your property.
