Canada Goose Fact Sheet

Like it or not, geese will probably invade your park, pond, golf course or lakeside property this year. If you have a lawn, garden or pond you’re proud of, geese will literally lay waste to it. These big birds eat up to five pounds a day and produce nearly two pounds of waste—that’s per bird. Multiply that by a sizeable gaggle and you begin to see the damage they can cause. So besides trampling on your plants and garden, their droppings can contaminate pools, spas, garden fountains and other water features with E. coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter or Cryptosporidium germs. Some property owners become so frustrated, they resort to lethal goose controls. But this can result in hefty fines.
