Top Solutions to Keep Birds Away

For almost every bird problem, there is a solution that has been developed.  And the solutions keep improving. Increased effectiveness in bird control is the number 1 priority for reputable bird control companies.  The need for bird control is a constant, whether it is residential or commercial.  Commercial bird control is a bit more complicated due to the buildings, their size and ornate structures, and the public that comes and goes.  The repercussions of not having bird control in place are money spent on clean up and building damage and health issues associated with the bird droppings.  It is more 24cost effective to build in bird control than to repair and replace.

Repair may be needed when birds are allowed to nest near air conditioning units, solar panels, rooftops and many other places where they cause damage to the surface of the building and machinery.  If bird droppings land on food related items, they most likely will be unusable.  Thousands of dollars is spent each year cleaning up the bird debris and repairing and replacing what they have damaged.

Customers and/or employees are at risk when the droppings are new, or when they have accumulated and dried up and are disturbed.  There are many documented cases of slip and fall injuries due to new and slick bird droppings.  Protecting the work environment and walkways for customers and visitors needs to be a priority.  The reputation of the company is on the line.

Bird Deterrent Solutions

There are various bird control products to choose from that will fit just about every conceivable need.  The solutions will help your surroundings in all ways mentioned; save money on clean up, protect from property damage, and protect the health of those who come in contact with the bird debris.

A very low cost and simple solution to start with is a visual deterrent.  Visual deterrents consist of scare balloons, diverters, flash tape and hawk decoys. Visual bird deterrents are used to frighten the birds away.  The visual deterrents all have the common scare trigger of predator features along with a reflective surface.  Strategically placed in trees, on the sides of buildings, awnings and such will create a visual disturbance that will keep birds away.  Moving them from time to time is necessary.  Birds are smart creatures, and they can get used to the object which would render it ineffective.  The hawk decoy is effective, as birds are always on guard for predators.  When they see the hawk they will want to flee the area.

Physical bird deterrents are bird control strategies that get in the way of the bird landing in a specific area.  As an example, bird spikes are a type of physical bird deterrent.  Birds like to perch and roost high upon a building.  They like the vantage point to look out for their predators and to spot a close food source.  Bird spikes will stop them from sitting along the roofline, ledges and parapet walls of the building.  Wherever the spikes are implemented, the birds will be unable to land and roost.  Bird spikes are meant to deter larger pest birds such as pigeons, crows and gulls.  There are many choices when it comes to the bird spike solution.  The choices include stainless steel and plastic bird spikes.  There are various widths to choose from depending on the surface they are being laid down on.  They can be glued, screwed or tied down to any surface, flat or curved.  Be sure to choose wisely and make certain the bird spikes have a UV protected polycarbonate base.  You also want to make sure they have the patented “bend and crush” design.  This guarantees that the spikes will not fall out of the base.  The bird spikes are also designed not to injure the birds if they were to attempt to land.  They are very safe for the birds and the person installing the spikes.  There are various other physical bird deterrents such as electric track bird deterrent systems, bird slopes and bird netting that is equally an effective solution.  Bird netting is another widely used physical bird deterrent.

Another solution that is an effective strategy to get rid of bird is the use of sound as a way to frighten the birds away.  There are sonic bird deterrent devices that broadcast predator calls and distress calls of actual birds.  The birds hear the familiar warning calls and will flee the area.  The sound devices have over 22 different types of pre-recorded calls in each unit.  Birds hear on the same level as humans, so do not consider any type of ultrasonic devices on the market.  They are not effective in scaring away pest birds.  Sonic units are the only sound deterrent solutions that will be effective in alleviating your pest bird problems.
