Solving Pest Bird Problems in Mississippi

Mississippi Bird Control

Several pest birds continue to create problems for the Magnolia State. The winged pests include Kites and cormorants. Mississippi Kites often dive at people who venture near their nests. Sometimes both parents dive and emit shrill cries when nests are threatened. The shrill cries often attract other kites, which also harass the intruder. The birds will attack golfers on fairways and passersby on streets. The attacks can be serious if elderly individuals or children riding bicycles are caused to fall.

Double-Crested Cormorants have become a major pest for aquaculture in the lower Mississippi Valley. Conservative estimates of cormorant roosts in Mississippi are approximately 75,000 birds. In some catfish farming areas, cormorants are so prolific (from feeding on the channel catfish) that catfish losses can be as high as 30%. In Mississippi alone, more than 100,000 acres of Delta land are dedicated to catfish production. These large, shallow ponds can contain as many as 60,000 catfish per acre. And because they are easily visible from the air, fish-eating birds, especially cormorants are drawn to them.

Here’s what the bird control experts at Bird B Gone recommend for solving Mississippi’s bird problems:

For Kites

Ideal for deterring as many as 22 different species of birds, the Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic device broadcasts distress and predator calls that intimidate birds. And unlike ultrasonic devices, the Bird Chase device emits sounds birds can hear.

For Cormorants

The handheld Agrilaser® uses advanced, patented optical laser-beam technology to harmlessly repel cormorants over great distances—up to 2,000 meters. The Stainless Steel Mega Spike won’t allow these big birds to land. Available in 3- and 7-inch splay widths, the large 7-inch spikes will keep cormorants off ledges, I-beams, parapet walls, conduits, pipes, and flat or curved surfaces.
