Solving Pest Bird Problems in New York

New York Bird Control

The Empire State has several serious issues with pest birds. In New York, water-cooling towers used in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems in many buildings have tested positive for legionella. Pigeons and other pest birds, which can carry any of 60 known diseases, often leave mounds of droppings around these towers. That finding has highlighted persistent concerns about the upkeep of the cooling towers, which provide the damp, warm environment that many bacteria need to thrive, and which must be cleaned on a regular basis to prevent the formation of bacteria.

Bird strikes have been a persistent problem at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. The airport sits on the shore of Jamaica Bay, an area often frequented by many birds. Flight 1320, a Boeing 757, was ascending when it was struck by a goose minutes later. After a careful inspection, the aircraft was taken out of service because of bird damage. According to the FAA, there were 124 bird strikes recorded at JFK between Jan. 1, 2014, and Sept. 24, 2014, or about 14 per month.

Here’s what the bird control experts at Bird B Gone recommend for solving New York’s bird problems:

For Pigeons

Stainless Steel Bird Spikes won’t allow birds to land. Available in 1-, 3-, 5- and 8-inch splay widths, the spiked strips provide increasingly wider areas of protection. Bird Jolt Flat Track imparts a harmless but persuasive electric shock to pigeons and other birds. It’s the only electric track with a patented anti-arcing design to guard against track short outs.

For Geese at Airports

Agrilaser® uses advanced, patented optical laser-beam technology to harmlessly repel pest birds over great distances—up to 2,000 meters. The handheld device is silent and portable. The Agrilaser® is animal friendly and ideal for repelling a variety of birds.
