Nevada Bird Control
Several pest birds plague The Silver State, not the least of which are pigeons. They are all over the city of Henderson and their populations are growing. Henderson recently added an ordinance that declares pigeons a public nuisance. One observer noted that there are as many as 750,000 to a million pigeons in Clark County, and that number is expected to double every four years.
Starlings are also causing problems in the state of Nevada. Hundreds of thousands of starlings usually pass through northern Nevada each winter. That number recently rose to nearly a million birds. The US Department of Agriculture used a pesticide to destroy nearly 50,000 starlings to prevent the spread of disease to dairy cows in Fallon and Fernley east of Reno, and Yerington. Bird droppings often contaminate food and water sources, putting cattle at risk for salmonella and E coli infections.
Stainless Steel Bird Spikes won’t allow birds to land. Available in 1-, 3-, 5- and 8-inch splay widths, the spiked strips provide increasingly wider areas of protection. These spikes come with a 10-year guarantee.
The Solar Bird Chase Super Sonic device broadcasts distress and predator calls that intimidate 22 different species of birds. Also effective is the Bird-Hazing System, which releases a light haze of Methyl Anthranilate, a non-toxic, EPA approved food-grade ingredient that solution irritates a bird’s mucous membranes.
